Terms of Use
Effective November 6, 2026
Free community map for litter cleanups.
Be honest. Stay safe. Respect property.
Clean up at your own risk.
1. Who we are
I Hate Waste (ihatewaste.com and its app, "the Service") is a Gear Websites project based in Tucson, Arizona. "We" and "us" mean the people who run the Service. Questions go to contact@ihatewaste.com.
2. Accepting these terms
By using the Service you agree to these Terms, the Privacy Policy and, before taking part in any cleanup, the Volunteer Waiver. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
3. Age
- You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service.
- If you are 13 to 17, a parent or legal guardian must review and agree to these Terms and the Volunteer Waiver for you, and you must clean up only with an adult leader present.
- Groups such as Scout troops, schools and churches are responsible for their own youth-protection rules and permission forms.
4. What the Service does and does not do
- Reports show an area (a hex about 175 meters across), never an exact point. Conditions change; a report can be old, wrong or already cleaned.
- We do not organize, supervise, inspect or insure cleanups. We do not verify users, groups, reports or the land they describe.
- A report is not permission to enter any property. Getting permission is your responsibility.
- The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," and may change, pause or end at any time.
5. Your conduct
You agree not to:
- Post false, misleading or spam reports, or game points and streaks.
- Post anything that identifies a private person, including faces, license plates, house numbers or names, or that accuses anyone of illegal dumping.
- Use the Service to trespass, harass, stalk or locate people, or to find homes, camps or personal property.
- Handle hazardous material. Hazards are for reporting only. Call the local authority, and 911 in an emergency.
- Interfere with the Service, scrape it, or try to access data or accounts that are not yours.
- Break any law, including littering, dumping, trespass and disposal rules.
6. Content you add
You keep ownership of what you post. You give us a free, worldwide, non-exclusive license to host, show, adapt and share it to run and promote the Service. Only post content you have the right to share. We may edit, hide or remove any report or account at any time.
7. Safety and assumption of risk
Cleanups involve real hazards: sharp objects, heat, traffic, wildlife, rough terrain, weather and unknown materials. You take part voluntarily and at your own risk, and you are responsible for your own judgment, gear and safety. Read the Volunteer Waiver before claiming a cleanup.
8. Disclaimers and limits of liability
- To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement.
- We are not liable for injury, illness, property damage, loss or any indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from use of the Service or any cleanup.
- If we are found liable anyway, our total liability is limited to fifty U.S. dollars ($50).
9. Indemnity
You agree to defend and hold us harmless from claims arising from your use of the Service, your content, your conduct at a cleanup or your breaking these Terms.
10. Third-party services
Maps come from OpenStreetMap contributors and OpenTopoMap, and the site runs on Cloudflare. Their own terms apply to their services.
11. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Arizona. Disputes go to the state or federal courts located in Pima County, Arizona.
12. Changes
We may update these Terms. The date at the top shows the latest version. Continuing to use the Service means you accept the update.
